Resistance training

Resistance training is a form of strength training. Although weight lifting can be considered a form of resistance training in that your muscles grow stronger. Withmoving and increasing amounts of weight against gravity, resistance training is where your muscles are working against some form of force. That opposing force may be hydraulic or elastic.

Resistance training, like weight lifting, helps build muscles and keep them tone. Where resistance training becomes effective is when the actual exercise goes through the full range of motion.

Why isn’t resistance training used more often?

The reason that most people who want to gain muscle or tone their muscles lift weights is because it is considered more efficient than using resistance training. Most people assume that you just can’t get bigger muscles or a well defined body by using resistance bands. But that is not necessarily true. If you use them properly your workout can be just as fulfilling as lifting weights. Like lifting weights there are a variety of exercises that can be done while using resistance bands.

And there are some advantages that resistance training has over lifting weights, such as the cost. The price of dumbbells and barbells plus the weight to put on them can add up. Also the resistance band is easy to cary with you when you are traveling.

Another advantage is that when you exercise with resistance bands you employ a wider range of motion then with weight lifting, which translates to more muscles being utilized and greater flexibility.

I love resistance training. I find that cardio, although great for fat burning, doesn't actually do much in terms of re-shaping your body. You end up becoming a smaller version of you, but with weights u can really start adding and subtracting curves in all the right places! Great article:)
